Mac Mini & Teacher Laptops
Teacher laptops and Mac mini labs are among the most critical devices in the school. Keeping them healthy requires good daily habits and timely reporting.
YOUR TEACHER LAPTOP: DAILY HABITS THAT MATTER
The single most effective thing you can do is restart your laptop regularly. Many teachers leave their laptop in sleep mode for days without a full restart. Over time this causes memory buildup, slower performance, and application crashes. Restart at least every few days. Never place drinks near the keyboard - liquid damage is the most common cause of laptop failure and is not covered under school warranty. Use the laptop on a flat hard surface since fabric surfaces block vents and cause overheating. Charge before the battery drops below 20% since consistently low battery accelerates degradation.
SOFTWARE UPDATES ON MANAGED LAPTOPS
Teacher laptops are managed devices and updates are controlled by IT to ensure compatibility with school systems. If you see an update notification, do not install it yourself. Submit a ticket and we will schedule it during a non-instructional time.
MAC MINI LAB MANAGEMENT
Allow all Mac minis to fully boot before students sit down at the start of each lab session. At the end ensure all students go to Apple Menu and Log Out before leaving. Mac minis do not have lids to close. If a Mac mini freezes, hold the power button for 10 seconds to force a shutdown. If freezing happens regularly on the same machine, submit a ticket.
WHEN TO SUBMIT A TICKET
Submit a ticket if the device is significantly slower than usual after a restart, the battery drains unusually fast, any port stops working, or you see repeated error messages at startup. Early reporting prevents small issues from becoming full device failures.
