Network & Connectivity

Wi-Fi issues are among the most disruptive technology problems in a school. When the network is slow or devices cannot connect, every device in the classroom is affected at once.

HOW SCHOOL WI-FI IS DIFFERENT FROM HOME WI-FI

Your home router serves 5 to 15 devices. A school network serves hundreds of devices across dozens of classrooms simultaneously. Schools use enterprise-grade access points mounted in hallways and ceilings designed to handle high device density. If a specific classroom consistently has weak signal, the problem is likely with the access point serving that area, not the devices themselves.

WHAT TO DO WHEN CONNECTIVITY IS SLOW

Before submitting a ticket do a quick assessment. Is the issue on one device or multiple? If only one device is affected the problem is likely with that device. Is it one room or the whole building? If multiple classrooms are affected it may be a wider network issue. Is the site actually down or just blocked? Try a different website to confirm. If multiple devices in your room cannot connect, submit a ticket with your room number and how many devices are affected.

CONNECTING NEW DEVICES

New devices must be configured by IT before connecting to the school network. Do not attempt to connect new equipment yourself. School networks use authentication protocols requiring specific settings on each device. Always submit a ticket for new device setup.

CONTENT FILTERING

The school network filters traffic on all connected devices including teacher laptops. If an instructional site is being filtered, submit a ticket with the URL and the reason you need access.

DURING A FULL OUTAGE

Submit a ticket so IT can escalate with the ISP. Keep students productive with offline activities in the meantime.
